~~~~~~~~ PEOPLE ESCAPING POVERTY PROJECT
Community Organizer
People Escaping Poverty Project (PEPP)
has an immediate
opening for the position of Community Organizer.
Job
Responsibilities Include:
- Issue Based Community
Organizing on issues related to tenant issues, affordable housing,
wages, public participation, neighborhood issues, city, state and
federal issues.
- Develop leaders and groups
of people to change policies that affect the quality of a progressive
community.
- The Organizer’s role
will
focus on building power through intentional relationships with PEPP
members, nonprofit organization’s constituents and clients.
- To engage leaders from
low-income households to participate in leadership development
opportunities.
- To build alliances with
community, political leaders, formal and informal associations,
neighborhood groups and other constituencies within the Fargo-Moorhead
Community.
Evening and weekend work and
some travel expected. Duties
will also include designing trainings, workshops and developing
presentations
to make to organizations and groups. The work will include planning,
coordinating and participating in PEPP sponsored events, leadership
meetings,
strategy meetings, civic engagement efforts and one-on-one relationship
building.
The work will result in increasing PEPP
membership,
developed leaders, and building a base of power in diverse communities.
Ability
to Fundraise, coordinate events, meetings, workshops, strategy sessions
and
media events is a crucial focus of this position.
Qualifications:
- Paid experience or formal
training as an Organizer is not required; however, this experience
would be helpful. On the job training will
be provided on a variety of areas including Organizer Training.
- Ability to speak, write,
translate and interpret multiple languages is desired.
- Ability to work within
multiple cultural communities, understanding and familiarity with
Latino and new American communities in the Fargo-Moorhead community.
- An understanding of racism
and institutional power, and a willingness to participate in ongoing
organizing and willingness to work on race as an issue.
- Must be willing to build
communities and make a difference through an understanding of social
justice empowerment, power, racism, oppression and self-interest.
- High energy, eager to learn,
flexible and willingness to take direction be agitated and to grow.
- Proficient use of the
Internet, e-mail, word processing and database programs will be
helpful. Strong oral, written, and
interpersonal communication skills.
Salary and
Benefits: This is a full time, permanent
position (40 hours per week +). The
starting wage for this position is equivalent
to $12.50 and hour with an attractive benefit package of Health Care
and paid
leave. PEPP’s office is located at

12th St. South, Moorhead, MN.
